Borderlands 4 Best Weapons Tier List & Legendary Farming Guide 2026
I have farmed every dedicated drop in Borderlands 4 at least twenty times. Some legendaries are game-breaking must-haves. Some have a 3% drop rate from a boss with a 5-minute runback and the weapon is worse than a purple Jakobs shotgun you can buy from a vending machine. Here is what is actually worth your time.
S-Tier: These Weapons Define The Meta
The Conference Call (Hyperion Shotgun, World Drop + Graveward dedicated): Still the best shotgun in the franchise. Fires pellets that spawn additional projectiles on impact. At level 40 Mayhem 3, a single shot into a crowd creates a bullet hell that clears the entire room. Graveward has a 10% dedicated drop rate. The runback is under 30 seconds from the fast travel station. Farm this first.
Unkempt Harold (Torgue Pistol, Savage Lee dedicated): The DPUH (Double Penetrating Unkempt Harold) variant fires 14 explosive rounds per shot for the cost of 6 ammo. Against large-hitbox bosses, every projectile connects and the damage is unmatched. Savage Lee spawns in three locations on Pandora-2. The Three Horns Divide route hits all three spawn points in about 2 minutes. Drop rate is roughly 8%.
The Butcher (Hyperion Shotgun, World Drop + Tyreen dedicated): Fully automatic shotgun that regenerates ammo on critical hits. With a maxed ammo regeneration build, The Butcher literally never needs to reload. It just fires forever. Tyreen has a 12% dedicated drop rate and the fight takes about 3 minutes with optimized gear. Worth the grind.
Monarch (Vladof Assault Rifle, Killavolt dedicated): Bipod assault rifle that fires 8 pellets per shot in bipod mode. Transforms into a laser-beam shotgun hybrid when deployed. Killavolt drops it at about a 9% rate. The fight has an immunity phase that drags it out, but the Monarch is worth the 4-minute kill time.
Sand Hawk (Dahl SMG, Katagawa Jr dedicated): Fires 9 projectiles in a bird-shaped spread pattern. With the element matching the enemy weakness, the Sand Hawk shreds bosses faster than any other SMG. Katagawa Jr is a 2-minute fight with a 10% drop rate. Farm a Corrosive and a Fire version — those cover 90% of enemy types.
A-Tier: Excellent Weapons With Minor Drawbacks
Infinity (Vladof Pistol, Doc Mercy dedicated): Infinite ammo pistol. Never reloads, never consumes ammo. The base damage is low but with the right build (Vex's fire rate skills, critical hit bonuses), it becomes a laser beam of constant damage. Doc Mercy has roughly a 6% drop rate. The runback is long (about 90 seconds) which makes farming tedious.
Lyuda (Vladof Sniper, World Drop + Gigamind dedicated): Full-auto sniper with a three-projectile spread per shot. Against the large hitbox bosses, all three projectiles hit and the DPS exceeds most shotguns at sniper range. Gigamind is a 60-second fight. The 8% drop rate means roughly 12-13 runs on average.
Recursion (Maliwan Shotgun, General Traunt dedicated): Fires a disc that bounces between enemies, spawning additional projectiles with each bounce. In dense mobbing scenarios, one disc can chain across 15 enemies and generate hundreds of projectiles. In single-target boss fights, it is useless. Highly situational but unmatched for mobbing. General Traunt has a 9% drop rate.
Maggie (Jakobs Pistol, Tremendous Rex dedicated): Six-shot revolver that fires as fast as you can pull the trigger. With Vex's pistol skills, the Maggie is the highest burst DPS weapon for close-range critical hits. Tremendous Rex is a tanky dinosaur with a 5% drop rate and a 4-minute fight. The worst farm-to-quality ratio in A-tier but the weapon itself is excellent.
Rowan's Call (Jakobs Assault Rifle, World Drop): Critical hits ricochet to nearby enemies and return ammo to the magazine. With consistent crit aim, the magazine lasts forever. No dedicated drop source means you rely on world drops, which makes farming a specific element frustrating.
B-Tier: Good Weapons, Better Alternatives Exist
Hellwalker (Jakobs Shotgun, Road Dog dedicated): Plays a guitar riff when you fire it. One-shots most non-badass enemies with a critical hit. Fun factor is S-tier, combat effectiveness is B-tier because the single-shot reload is too slow for sustained DPS. Road Dog spawns inconsistently (about 40% of the time).
Brainstormer (Hyperion Shotgun, World Drop): Chain lightning on critical hits. Excellent for shield-stripping but the base damage is too low for health damage. Best used as a utility weapon in the second slot for shield-heavy encounters.
Flood (Jakobs Revolver, World Drop): Full-auto revolver. Sounds amazing on paper but the recoil is uncontrollable after the third shot without significant recoil reduction skills. Harlowe's recoil skills fix this, making it A-tier for her and C-tier for everyone else.
Legendary Farming Route (Most Efficient Path)
Start at Sanctuary III. Fast travel to Three Horns Divide for Savage Lee (Unkempt Harold, 2 minutes per run). Fast travel to The Floating Tomb for Graveward (Conference Call, 30 seconds per run). Fast travel to Lectra City for Killavolt (Monarch, 4 minutes per run). Fast travel to Atlas HQ for Katagawa Jr (Sand Hawk, 2 minutes per run). That is four S-tier weapons in about 9 minutes per loop. Repeat until your inventory is full.
For world drops, the Slaughter Shaft in Pandora-2 awards about 15-20 legendaries per completion at Mayhem 3. Full clear takes about 20 minutes with optimized gear. This is the best legendaries-per-minute in the game, but you cannot target specific weapons.
Weapon Parts And Why They Matter
Borderlands 4 weapon parts are not cosmetic. The grip affects fire rate and reload speed. The barrel affects damage and projectile count. The stock affects accuracy and recoil. The sight is cosmetic (use whatever you like).
When farming for a specific legendary, check the parts before celebrating. A Conference Call with a Jakobs grip (bonus damage, penalty to fire rate) is significantly better than one with a Tediore grip (bonus reload speed, penalty to damage). The parts can swing a weapon's effective DPS by 20-30%. This is the difference between a weapon that is S-tier and one that is B-tier with the same name.
For the Unkempt Harold specifically, you want the Double Penetrating prefix (Torgue grip) for the 2x projectile count. The Intense prefix (Maliwan grip) adds elemental damage but fewer projectiles. The DPUH outdamages every other variant by at least 30% against anything larger than a Psycho.
Vault Hunter Weapon Synergies
Vex (the Gunner): Jakobs weapons benefit most from Vex's critical hit and fire rate skills. Maggie, Rowan's Call, and Hellwalker are all significantly better on Vex than on other Vault Hunters.
Amon (the Operative): Hyperion weapons synergize with Amon's shield and accuracy skills. Conference Call and Butcher are Amon's best weapons because the shield uptime lets him stand still and maintain critical hit chains.
Rafa (the Siren): Maliwan elemental weapons double-dip on Rafa's elemental damage bonuses. Sand Hawk and Recursion are devastating on Rafa with the matching element for each enemy type.
Harlowe (the Beastmaster): Vladof weapons benefit from Harlowe's ammo regeneration and pet-aggro skills. Monarch and Lyuda let Harlowe set up in bipod mode while the pet tanks, outputting uninterrupted critical hit chains.
